Demetri Chrissos
Demetri Chrissos stands as a vibrant force in the musical landscape, a multifaceted artist, dedicated educator, and passionate arts advocate whose mission is to bridge diverse musical worlds and cultivate an equitable and sustainable performing arts scene in Savannah and beyond.
With a unique background that blends classical rigor with contemporary significance, Chrissos embodies the transformative power of music, not just as a performance, but as a vechicle to empower a message, and be a catalyst for community development and personal empowerment.
The Artist's Journey
Demetri's musical journey began with a strong classical foundation in piano, with 7 years private instruction with Carolyn Booth, NCTM. Nurtured by formative experiences singing seasons with the Children's Chorus of Washington performing alongside the esteemed NSO. This early immersion in classical music instilled a deep understanding of musical theory and discipline.
He continued to develop his craft singing in the Schola Cantorum for The Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle in Washington DC. However, his artistic curiosity soon led him to explore a vast array of genres, expanding his repertoire to include the intricate genres of rock, jazz, bluegrass, and even the rhythmic pulse of EDM.
Demetri pursued vocal performance at DePaul University, studying under Marc Embree, and collaborated with professional ensembles around the Chicago area such as the William Ferris Chorale and daCorneto Opera. Returning to DC, he continued to develop his performance accumen as a professional in multiple musical scenes. His diverse experience includes the distinct honor of cantoring for Pope Francis's mid-day Mass during the 2015 U.S. tour.
Eventually relocating to Savannah in 2016, he has enjoyed collaborations with numerous projects and arts organizations across Savannah, such as Friends of Cathedral Music, Phantom Wingo, Holly Goodspell, House of Earth, Salt Flat Pickers, Squash, The Bay Street Theatre, XuluProphet, Unifya, Sporehead and more. His performances have toured significant local venues, including many of the incredible churches in Savannah, Victory North, and even the EnMarket Arena, where he had the distinct honor to sing with the Philharmonic Chorus during Andrea Bocelli's 2025 Valentines Day Concert.
Beyond Performance: Educator and Mentor
Demetri’s passion extends far beyond the stage into the realm of education and mentorship. After relocating to Savannah in 2016, Demetri began teaching private music lessons. Originally teaching out of a shared studios, his reputation led him to develop his own! He is the founder of Chrissos Music, a performance education studio rooted in his core philosophy: through participation, the arts are not merely a pastime, but a universal language of self-expression and more importantly, a path with professional opportunities for dedicated artists who want to join in the scene.
Chrissos dedicates himself to making music education accessible to all, providing aspiring artists with the essential skills and guidance needed to pursue their dreams. His work has a profound impact on the work of his students and contributes to the cultural enrichment and community development of Savannah.
